Thalenite (Y) -Allanite (Ce)
Thalenite(Y) is an Yttrium silicate with formula Y3Si3O10(OH) and hardness of 6-6.5.
A rare earth mineral with a yellowish color that fluoresce in creamy yellow under uv short wave.
Is mixed with the rare Allanite, a Calcium,Cerium,Lanthanum,Yttrium,Aluminium,Iron silicate hydroxide with formula (Ca, Ce, La, Y)2(Al, Fe)3(SiO4)3(OH) and hardness of 5.5. In fact Allanite formula is more complex that that one above,: (Ca, Ce, Y, La, Th, Na, K)2(Al, Fe, Be, Mn, Mg)3(SiO4)3(OH), or Calcium Cerium Yttrium lanthanum Thorium Sodium Potassium Aluminum Iron Beryllium Manganese Magnesium Silicate Hydroxide. This mineral is referred as “trash mineral” due to it's typical feature to attract elements not desirable for other minerals.
A really exotic stone for the systematic collector. It comes from White Cloud Pegmatite,South Platte district, Colorado. Slighty radioactive.
Size: 9x5.9x4.5 mm.
