Quartz with piemontite
an interesting new type of quartz with inclusions has been found in Madagascar in the year 2013.
The piemontite ,or red epidote with formula Ca2(Al,Mn3+,Fe3+)3(SiO4)(Si2O7)O(OH) is present in numerous elongated prismatic crystals arranged in random directions into the host quartz.
Piemontite is a manganese-rich epidote rarely found as inclusions in quartz. As far as I know this is the only locality who produced an handful of cut stones with this mineral. A rare find no longer available.
Size: 11.8x9x6.3 mm.
