SUNSET QUARTZ

A new quartz variety has been discovered in July 2006 in Minas Gerais, Brazil and has been presented at the Tucson gem fair for the first time. This name has been given because remind the sunset color. Has been mined 1500 Kg., but only 5 Kg where of gem quality. Stone sizes range from 1-10 ct.

During heating experiment has been noticed that material of yellow-orange color turns to orange at 350 C° and is very stable. There is no mean to separate natural from heat treated one by standard gemological tools. Deep analysis shows aluminum, iron and traces on potassium .
