Cuprite
Is a nice copper mineral with an adamantine and sub metallic luster.
A copper oxide with formula Cu2O, hardness 3.5-4.
Quite brittle for jewellery. Nevertheless can be set with extreme care for a pendant.
This cabochon is hand polished on both side and shows a metallic luster at reflected light ,while with incandescent light from the side we can see a beautiful pure red color with good transparency. This is a typical cuprite feature, a rare mineral especially in the gem quality. It comes from Sonora. Mexico.
